Electrical Panel Upgrades in Toronto & the GTA

More capacity for what comes next — EV chargers, heat pumps, and modern appliances.

When an upgrade makes sense. If your breakers trip when the kettle and the dryer run together, if your panel is full of tandem breakers, or if it still uses fuses — your electrical system is telling you it is out of room. Add an EV charger or a heat pump to that picture and a 100-amp service simply cannot keep up.

We replace aging panels with modern 200-amp service: new Siemens panels, properly sized breakers, clean labelling, whole-home surge protection, and grounding brought up to current code. Most upgrades are completed in a single day with power restored the same evening.

Before we quote, we run a load calculation on your home — how much power you use today and what you plan to add. You get an honest answer about whether you need the upgrade at all, and exactly what it includes if you do.

What’s included

Our process

  1. Load calculation. We assess your current usage and future plans — EV, heat pump, renovation — to size the service correctly.
  2. Clear quote. One price for the full job: panel, breakers, permit, inspection, and cleanup. No surprises.
  3. Upgrade day. Your hydro utility disconnects power in the morning; we swap the panel and have you back on by evening in most cases.
  4. Inspection and walkthrough. We coordinate the ESA inspection and walk you through your new labelled panel.

Why a licensed contractor matters. In Ontario, electrical work must be done by a licensed electrical contractor with an ESA permit where required. Trusted Electric Group is licensed under ECRA/ESA #7018920 — every installation is completed to the Ontario Electrical Safety Code, and we arrange the ESA notification for you.
Common questions

Electrical Panel Upgrades: FAQ

How do I know if I need a panel upgrade?

Common signs: breakers that trip under normal use, a panel with no spare breaker spaces, fuses instead of breakers, or plans to add an EV charger, heat pump, or major appliance. A load calculation gives you a definitive answer.

How long does a panel upgrade take?

Most residential panel upgrades are completed in a single day, with power restored the same evening. We coordinate the timing with your hydro utility.

Will I need an ESA permit?

Yes — a service upgrade requires an ESA notification and inspection in Ontario. We arrange and handle all of it.

Can I upgrade my panel myself?

No. Service upgrades involve the main hydro connection and must be performed by a licensed electrical contractor. It is also a requirement for your home insurance to remain valid.
